This chain agreed to try to make a pilot version of the project, and we started with the support of the Center for Environmental Solutions and the charity project "KaliLaska" which already has an established infrastructure," Elena Pischuk recalls the beginning of work. "I found a personal contact of a person from one Minsk hypermarket chain, for which responsible consumption also turned out to be an important task. The team has already tried to collect and distribute the first batch of products to people. Activists will get involved in the redistribution of food among those in need. There is the team, the victory - this means that very soon a project to collect still good products from shops may appear in Belarus. At the head of a team of active young people is an enthusiast Elena Pischuk. In the competition of social projects - this year´s “Social Weekend” hackathon the winner has been the "Pishcha" initiative to create a system of free redistribution of rejected products among socially vulnerable groups. In European countries, there are hundreds of such organizations that give food a second chance and supply poor people with basic necessities. These are organizations that collect good unsold products in stores and from manufacturers, that is, products that were not sold before the exipration date or those that have a non-marketable appearance, and give them to those in need. For suitable products there is another way out - food banks. The truth is that utilization and landfilling of food waste is optimal neither from the point of view of influence on the environment, nor from the economic nor from social one. By law, they are responsible for the disposal of their food waste and comply with these standards, but some of the products still go to landfills (if there is no processor). How it helps society and the environment.Īccording to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection, stores throw away up to 50 thousand tons of expired products per year.
